Keynote: The double-edged sword of digital transformation
09.30 – 10.00

Digital transformation is a game changer for businesses, that’s for sure. But how will digital transformation change you? Although it is often hailed as the new holy grail, this is not the reality for everyone on the workfloor. The mass dismissal of 1.900 Proximus employees is only one example. In order for digital transformation to succeed on every level of society, it needs to be inclusive. In this keynote Valérie touches offers her views on the benefits of digital transformation for business, and the risks it entails on a personal level.

The AI Factory: How to bring Artificial Intelligence to life?
10.50 – 11.15

Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities are an indispensable asset of the future-proof organization. Although there is a growing industry awareness on the importance of those capabilities, there is still an enormous gap in the industrialization and operationalization of ML and AI-driven results in the daily business processes. The main task of the modern data scientist is no longer only extracting useful and meaningful business patterns and mathematical models from data, but to develop and maintain a well-oiled AI Factory. That is, a streamlined process for adopting ML and AI into operational, tactical and strategical business processes. During this presentation, Véronique will demystify some of the underlying concepts behind AI and discuss practical examples on how an AI project can be successfully put in practice.

Is Digital transformation only about technology?
11.50 – 12.15

When talking about digital transformation, most people think it is only about technology. And that technology is only about IT. But digital transformation is so much more. It has a crucial impact on current business models; That evolution is also made possible by customer behaviour, who are starting to question all operating models in terms of products and services. The entire company needs to transformed, with the aid of technology. And it’s all in order to render the company more efficient, cost-effective and agile, adaptable to the quick market changes.

Bringing your production environment to a next level: combining existing data sets with additional sensors to look into the future
11.50 – 12.15

When running a continuous production line chances are great that your controllers or PLCs are generating a lot of production-related data. These are mainly used to optimise individual production runs or as a reference to figure out the origin of an unexpected incident. As we all know: there is a lot more value in this data. The present lecture shows a number of examples where this existing data source is harvested in an organised way and stored in a dedicated analysis platform. The production assets are instrumented as well with a limited set of additional sensors for tracking their state of health. The analysis in the platform transforms the flow into dedicated parameters that enable the site manager to predict failures, schedule repair well ahead of time and optimise production based on the same combined data set.

13.45 – 14.10

Digital transformation starts with data. The database management market is undergoing a rapid and profound transition, Cloud and dbPaaS is becoming the platform of choice. Enabling the use of data across the enterprise and even outside has become an imperative. The combination of cloud computing and AI has brought major change, but also presents unique opportunities. In this exponentially changing environment it’s fundamental to rethink your technology architecture, processes and people required for next-generation workloads and to understand new trends and technologies that could significantly benefit your business. So what is driving the data infrastructure transformation to new technologies and platforms? How are existing technologies changing and what new technologies are emerging to support this transformation? What are the vendors doing and how will the market evolve?

Hyperscale and Microcare: the secret sauce behind successful digital services
15.15 – 15.45

Open Source and the Cloud make it easier than ever to build and deploy software products on a global scale. As a result, competition is tough and prices are under pressure. Adding more functionality to your digital service will not change this.

In this talk, Nick Boucart will explore the idea of Hyperscale and Microcare as a way out for digital services. Successful digital services are able to establish close relationships with each of their 1000s of users. Using examples from the field, Nick will give tangible ideas on how you can start levering hyperscale and microcare in your environment.
